Day 48: Samarkand - Buchara

Lazy travel day: we moved on to Buchara with the local Afrosyob high speed train. As we will have a local guide here for the next two days, we just strolled the place a bit and had two stops with iced coffee and very tasty cakes... 

Day 47: Samarkand

With rain in the morning we spent our day in and near Samarkand, first at the Bibikhanum Mosque right next to the hotel, then at Shah-I-Zinda, a row of beautifully decorated mausoleums. Before heading to the Ulugh Bek observatory in the afternoon we stopped by a traditional paper factory where we could watch how it is made from the bark of mulberry trees.

Day 46: Tashkent - Samarkand

Our first train ride on this trip! We arrived in Samarkand around noon and spent the afternoon in the beautifully restored Amir Temur Mausoleum and the Registan Ensemble where we stopped again on the way to dinner.

Day 45: Tashkent

Tashkent city today: we had a nice guided tour through the city today and got some more understanding about how this city and its role evolved and changed over the centuries. Besides the important religious sites of Islam, we also stopped at the big bazaar and the place around the famous Hotel Uzbekistan...
